Schwab has a spectacular aura about
Yamaha Artist Model C

I went with a friend of mine to Pro Winds in Bloomington, IN to check out the new Yamaha Artist Model C, I have to say I was disappointed. He has a Bach/Malone conversion C, and there was no comparison. The Yamaha still sounded dull like other Yamahas. Very disappointed. I wasn't looking to buy one, but I at least wanted to like it.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but before you totally write off the new Yamaha, remember that Chris Martin just won the Chicago job playing that model horn...........

The panel obviously had no problem with his sound.........

Re: Yamaha Artist Model C

I haven't had the chance to play one of the new Yamaha trumpets yet but I'm looking forward to comparing this new malone to my old Yamalone. It is tough to compare any trumpet to the Bach Malone stc man was comparing. That is the best c trumpet I have ever played.

You have a point Mike, that Bach/Malone I compared it to is just about the best C trumpet ever.

It deserves a better owner for sure! its a damn shame.....

Anyway the pictures I have seen of this new trumpet look very similar to the conversions. Does anyone know what Malone has done different to these trumpets? I heard something about the bell getting thinner?

Also are these made in a factory in Japan with all of the other trumpets or are they built in a different way? Maybe more by hand or by Malone himself?

I played one for the first time last week.

I noticed it played similar to my trumpet(Yamaha 6445HSII) but with WAY better intonation. It had the Yammie blow and a rich sound. It felt fairly light in my hands. The tone was dark and in the lower register with a lot air and mellow and solid when you back off. Similarly in the upper register it sounded bright and clear with lots of power and more sweet and delicate when you play quietly. Response was nice and quick. However, as I was playing the horn I found that it was a nice horn but didn't change my perception of trumpets in general.

Then something occurred to me. It sounded really good in the a crappy practice room. I bet it would sound great in a concert hall.

I heard Mark Bennett (fantastic UK player) playing the Tomasi on his Chicago C - sounded AMAZING! He got a lot of 'zing' out of it - sounded very Bach-like in fact.

I have a friend and colleague who played that exact same horn at Pro winds and was disappointed as well. Didn't think it was anything special and didn't have the kind of sound he wanted.

Maybe its that one.. or maybe the room they have to play in is lame?

Re: Yamaha Artist Model C

The rooms are lame but a friend of mine bought it and had that horn on trila for 7 days and I'm sure he had the chance to play it in a bunch of rooms / halls. He decided to return it.

Anyway what are these stories I am hearing about this horn playing flat and Yamaha has to come out with a new tuning slide. Can anyone give me some more info?
