Andrea Tofanelli plays a Yamaha YTR 8345 Xeno trumpet if that means anything to you. http://www.andreatofanelli.com/trumpet.html He use to play a Schilke and recently made the switch to a Yamaha. I don't know if these recordings were made with the Schilke or with the Yamaha but judge for yourself how he plays. http://www.andreatofanelli.com/ascoltomp3.html Liad Bar-EL

To my ears I have lots of trouble telling the difference in sound between different finishes, although some people say they can. The much bigger difference comes from your choice of model rather than finish. If I'm not mistaken you're looking at a ml (35 in the number) bore trumpet with a gold brass bell and reversed leadpipe (the RG in the model reference). What characteristics are looking for with that choice rather than the standard Xeno..the 8335? Regards, Trevor Last edited by camelbrass : 09-27-2006 at 09:00 AM.

I have recently tested all of these models. I think it is safe to say that they are all very fine horns, and all play very similarly. You will not notice much difference in the sound, if any. That said, each horn I played had minor differences. I played on a couple different silver finish horns, a couple shot blast silver horns and one lacquer shot blast finish horn. I really did not care for the look of the lacquer shot blast at all. It is not a rough finish like the silver shot blast. Of the horns I tried, however, I thought that it was the best playing horn, but these are minor differences. The valves were a little better than the other horns. I think you should decide what look you want, and then try to test several of that model, and choose the best of them. The reversed leadpipe trumpet, regardless of finish is a very nice horn. In the end, it did not have quite the sound I was after, and I ordered an Eclipse LR.
