Yamaha YTR-8310ZBP Limited Edition Black Lacquer Bb Trumpet with Custom Phoenix Engra

I came accross this trumpet yesterday. It caught my eyes like BAM! as if it slapped me in the face. I personally thinks it looks beatiful. Unfortunately there aren't many pictures out there in the internet world. If you have any inside scoop on this trumpet please share. :)

The black laq. seems cool at first, but to use it, in a band or orchestra, daily, you will become the black sheep.

I looked at the Martin, and again, as a collector, yes, but the newness would ware off, the "ooohs" would dissipate, and there you are. A trumpet "too fancy" among the rest, outstanding from who?

Different story if your in something like a Salsa Band- lead.

If I could get one small enough, and light enough to hang on my Christmas tree, I'd get one.

Hmmmmm, I reckon lanolin would work well on the slides of this one.

Re: Yamaha YTR-8310ZBP Limited Edition Black Lacquer Bb Trumpet with Custom Phoenix E

I have played two of the Phoenix's and they play exactly the same as a regular 8310Z in lacquer. Great horns but I a not sure sure about the black lacquer ;) The engraving is nice and subtle but it is pretty cool.

If you can play the darned thing even halfway well, no one's going to judge you harshly or ostracize you. Amongst youngsters it might generate some interest/teasing, but again, if you can demonstrate that it sounds good, and/or that you can play it, the only thing the different appearance might generate is remarks of envy. Others may even seek a similar appearing horn in hopes of sounding as good.

There are band and orchestra conductors at all levels who might have an issue with how a horn looks - a thread about someone wanting to play their Monette (raw brass) in church and meeting with resistance from the MD can be found on one of these forums. So that is the person to consult before you show up with a non-standard-looking horn.
