![]() | YTR 8310 ZS Plating issues I have recently purchased a new Yamaha YTR 8310 ZS Bobby Shew trumpet which I absolutely love. I have had issues with the silver plating, most noticable on the outside of the bell. What it is looks fine overspray, but it starts to appear after time. What I believe is the silver plating has small pinholes in the plating and what is seen is the brass oxidizing and as it is doing so, turns darker in colour. This is my second horn that is doing the same thing so I am thinking there is more than one of these horns out there doing the same thing. The horn plays great, (of coarse) but a horn of this quality should not have these plating issues. Has anyone heard of this before? I have contacted Yamaha and are still waiting for a responce.

![]() | Rob, I play on the Bobby Shew 8310 ZS and yes, it is a wonderful free-blowing versatile horn. My ZS has no plating issues at all, and it is absolutely flawless as far as I can see. I hope your issues get resolved. If I had seen bad plating, I guess I would have replaced it with a horn that was different. But, then, I haven't purchased that many to think about it. But, I do look at it every time I practice to see if I can believe what I have and play. |

![]() | I actually just got a reply back from Yamaha and they are aware of the problem. I am guessing it is a particular production run that is affected and the two I just had are of the same production run and obviously your was not! The good news is I will be looked after, that is all I need to know, it is a sweet horn!

![]() | welcome aboard lam, I play on the 8310ZS and it is a very nice trumpet. I have tried other Yamahas, but, as each horn that I played got better and better, until the 8310ZS. My wife noticed a distinct sound when I played this horn and I liked the way it responded to the way I play. I have read some threads on here that some players noticed a cut-off in this horn after some time with it at around a high C. I have experienced none of that and can continue up to a Double A for a good amount of time. I feel for me, this horn is quite a nice fit. You may find otherwise. I also found that I need to do less work to play this trumpet. As my wife has told me that I sound like a cross between Doc Severinsen and Harry James, Although I am no where near the caliber of their playing, I like the sound of it. I hope you find the right fit for you. Hope this helps. |

![]() | Re: YTR 8310 ZS Plating issues Hi All, Rob, now it's been almost a year. Are you still happy with your YTR-8310ZS? Are the plating problems taken care of? I am going to buy a 8310zs this coming Thursday, I'll take a look at the plating closely. Thanks for the input. |
