1932 King Sivertone Trumpet

my wife just bought a re-furbished trumpet to go along with her C. Melk re-furbished 1934 Silvertone cornet. She got the horn on ebay and it came from England. The horn is really nice but I believe it may be a small bore, you can over power it quite easily but on the other hand it plays very nice when played soft - will be a great horn to play in church. The valves have been re-done but they are copper plated, a friend said this is bad because copper wears very fast and the valves will be shot soon. I noticed that these valve seem heavier then other plated valves. All in all the horn is very nice, a real keeper. Dave

Re: 1932 King Sivertone Trumpet

I have a King Silvertone trumpet form 1938. It is fine playing condition, but cosmetically could use some work. Yes, it is a smaller bore than modern trumpets, but I find it also to be a great church horn. It projects well with a narrow focus that will not spread and overpower a chorus. Really interesting.

Quite often a change to a mouthpiece with a larger throat will cure the overblowing problem.

BALDERDASH !!!!!!!! My King Silvertone,( 1929 ) trumpet and several of my vintage Holton cornets and trumpets were built with copper plated valves and after eons of heavy usage are still tight and have zero perceptable leakage of compression. After a good cleaning, the use of a good synthetic valve oil, like Hetmans, will do wonders. My original King Silvertone trumpet,( my dads horn ), never had anything but saliva for valve lubricant and the valves were still great after 33 years of VERY heavy use. Don't worry about the copper plated valves. they are not in any way bad and will not gall the casings as the nickel plated valves will, as they wear and shed fine particals of nickel which become a poor quality lapping compound.

I noticed that these valve seem heavier then other plated valves. All in all the horn is very nice, a real keeper. Dave

Indeed that little horn is a real keeper. Use it in church extensively.

Thanks old lou - as a machinist repairman by trade I had a hard time believing the copper will wear faster statement. the more she plays it the better she likes it. Dave
