1951 King Silvertone Cornet
I have a 1951 Silvertone Cornet with original Guarantee Bond reading "Artist Special" Finish, "SN301779" and dated "January 3, 1951". Silver bell is in excellent condition with no dings; brass has some pitting; valves and slides all work smoothly. Has original hard case showing normal wear for 60 years. My questions: what price range would this be worth and what is best source for selling? I can provide photos.

Ravenwood, although I am still a newbie around here, I have learned a lot from the guys here at TM. Probably one of the most valuable is that the King Silvertone by H.N. White is practically worthless. In addition, following in their footsteps, I will graciously offer to rid you of this POS for $5 sight unseen (hey, I'm a generous guy!), if you provide free shipping. If you have some photos please send to me, but don't bother to waste anybody's time on this forum by posting. It would make a decent lamp for my rec room.

Hello Ravenwood, optiguytom is just having a little fun with you. That particular King Master Cornet is one of the more rare ones.
If it is still in very good condition and you take some very good pics. Also do some research on the H.N. White King internet site. Give it a proper write up.
Could sell low as $400.00 to $800.00 and maybe more. Just depends. With the economy bad as it is. I would wait awhile and give some time for people to file income tax returns. Most people right now are tied down with paying Taxes and filing for tax returns
If you decide to auction it off on E-Bay. Which will probably be your best bet. Make sure to set the Auction up with a reasonable( buy it now price) and a decent low reserve. Does not hurt to include free shipping/insurance/and a delivery confirmation.
If the Cornet is not that important to you. Set up the Auction with no Reserve and a starting bid and let it ride. Those auctions can get really crazy. I would not go over Three days. It does not take seven days for serious bidders to make up their minds, what they wish to bid.
There are some E-bay sellers selling some vintage Horns for ridiculous prices right now on E-bay. Some of the horns are just fair to bad condition horns. Most are still sitting on e-Bay,just to be looked at and past over.
If you know how to ship to Canada and Japan. You will greatly broaden any desired buyers. Figure shipping to be about $45.00 to Canada and $90.00 to Japan. I would stay in the USA and these mentioned countrys.
Your horn still has to be in tip top condition inside and out, to attract serious buyers. If you list it with no returns accepted. E-Bay will still not release the money till the buyer has received it and gives you positive feed back. If the horn is defective or not advertised correctly. It will be coming back home to you. That is only fair. That is about it for me. Take care, good luck on your Cornet sell.

Oh thanks Study888! Haha...no, really, I did send him a personal message similar to yours.
One other suggestion for Ebay, how ever many days you list it, I think it's best to have it end on a Sunday night. That way it will be seen all weekend and more people are able to monitor Sunday night. Of course, any serious bid will be automatic, even so, doesn't hurt. We are anxious to see photos. If you get any offers to sell it outright...you will loose if you do.
