1956 olds mendez long cornet

Hi All,Yeasterday while looking for a Olds Recorder on Ebay I spotted an Olds mendez cornet 1956.I thought that the seller made a mistake an listed it as a cornet and it was a trumpet. It looks exactly like the Mendez trumpet! I e-mailed her and she explained that she also thought it was a trumpet but it was engraved cornet on the bell.It only has one small ding on the bell and it was looking so beautiful that I put a low bid (less that $700)thinking I didn't have a chance at it.I won it!!!No Recorder for me for awhile if I want to stay in good standing with the wife but thats just fine with me.There is not much info on the net for this horn and Iam thinking that theres not to many of these around?I would love to get the matching trumpet some time in the future.Any info on this horn would be great.Screaming Morris,Mf fan,And Old lou to the rescue I hope. Thanks Everyone

Cool Re: 1956 olds mendez long cornet

Ebay can be a funny thing. That is what happend for me yesterday with a '64 Olds Super. Put in a low bid, yet still won... $235.00 plus a promotional $20.00 coupon from ebay to boot. Still shocked a bit.

I also recently picked up good deals on an Olds Special and an LA Olds Ambassador Cornet that needs a little work and a pinky ring...

So it is too late for me to be in good standing with the boss, I will have to work a bit to get out of the hole on this one... But come on, $235 for an Olds Super... I never should have won that.. It's not my fault honey! Really....

Arg... (Yet WOOHOO at the same time.)

A trip to WWW. Olds Central and to Horn-u-copia should bring you up to date.

Congrats on the win at a decent price. Lou beat me to the punch, as I would have recommended the same sources.

Mendez cornets are fun! Not anything like the trumpet aside from the quality being high. I'm guessing you will like it, you know the old "cornets can be flavored with different mouthpieces....."

I bid on that horn ...
Congratulations! I hope you truly enjoy and appreciate it.
I have a Conn 28A (also from the same time frame), and wanted to compare them.
I have a theory re. "Conn 28A vs 38B" in relationship to "Mendez long cornet vs Mendez trumpet", but can't draw any real conclusions without playing them both side by side.

Thanks for the congratulations. Its scheduled to arrive this friday. Can't wait to get it!I would love to down the road a bit find a mendez trumpet and have the pair.I have read somewhere that the only real difference between the two is the leadpipe being conical.Other than that there almost identical. Thanks Again,Don

Re: 1956 olds mendez long cornet

If anyone is interested, its been a couple of weeks since the Mendez cornet arrived and I can't put this thing down!I love the Mendez #1 mouthpiece that came with it.It has sort of a wide rim and is very comfortable.I"ve been working on the arbans theme and variations including the carnival of Venice with it everyday for the past two weeks.I went from playing an hour a day to 90 minutes at the very least because its just so much fun to play.I played a flugle horn in the past and because I only play an hour or so each day,It was really hurting my trumpet playing and had to stop. Not so with the cornet,I feel it enhances my trumpet playing.I always thought that newer meant better, more precise due to the technology, but I certaintly do not think that way now.Cheers Don
