Re: Adding a 1st valve slide ring onto an olds?

As I understand it, Olds had tone rings left over from the LA days when they made the move to Fullerton, and continued using the tone rings until they ran out. The Fullerton horn with an LA tone ring really isn't a hybrid, unless you think the text change from "Los Angeles" to "Fullerton" makes a difference in the horn's tone (I don't).

further clarification. I believe it was the bells with tone rings already on that were taken over to the new factory. The tone rings are put on during bell construction....

k...the bell with the tone ring already on it makes more sense. I dont see why they'd put Los Angeles on a horn that really didn't have anything to do with the LA factory.

I won this one : )...Theres some unsightly spots on the lacquer but the rest of it looks great. I hope this was a good purchase!!
I'm sure you will love it. The marks on the ring make no difference to the playing. I have an LA model and a Fullerton model. They both play great. I can't imagine why you would need a 1st valve ring. Mine are very easy to lip into tune when needed.

I came pretty close to jumping on that one, but I had my eye on a restored Old's Super Cornet...good work!

I had a late 60's Super with the adjustable kicker on it. I ordered the parts for the 1st valve slide and a 3rd valve slide stop through Buckeye Brass in my area. He has had a problem getting the parts quickly, but assures me they'll be here soon. When it happens, I'll post again and let you know cost and how it went.
I got the above work done on my horn. Turned out great. The 3rd valve slide stop rod is not OEM and the 1st valve slide slide saddle isnt original but I like the look better. I also stripped the lacquer off and had it buffed by Buckeye Brass. My cost was about $200 for the work and WELL worth it. I'd love to post a picture but cant seem to get it to work.
