| Re: Bach Trumpet Serial #13 So it is from Graslitz? And signed Bohemia? And made by an Anton Bach. Graslitz was the musical instrument production center of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. There were lots of small makers and a few bigger ones like Bohland & Fuchs and A. K. Hüttl. Guess Anton Bach was one of these well trained craftsmen who once set up his own shop. As for the age. Since it is marked Bohemia it is a little bit uncertain as Bohemia did not exist more than as juridical fact, the kingdom of Bohemia had been a part of Austria since the middle of the seventeenth century. However in October 1918 the old Bohemia became the new Czechoslovakia. I guess this trumpet would have been marked Czechoslovakia if it was made after 1918. Alas, it was probably made before 1918 by this Anton Bach who was not so found of the Austrian government..? You can read about the music industry in Graslitz, or Kraslice as it is called today, on the homepage of AMATI: AMATI - Denak / History I have by the way tried to make a little timeline, as a help for dating Bohland & Fuchs instruments, on Horn-u-Copia: Horn-u-copia public forum discussing antique, obscure and out-of-production Brass Instruments I would love to correct it if anyone has something to add or find something which is wrong. Please mail me at hk@kraxbb.se if you know something! Best Regards! KarlR |
