![]() | Beginners luck, Pt. 2 - Just found a 1955 Conn Victor Hi all- I regularly hit pawn shops and thrift stores in town and while at a local scary pawn shop I came across a horn case marked "Conn." From my reading over the last few days I've learned that these horns are often saught after and solid horns. I decided to take a look. The horn was in good condition with some blemishes in the finish but very few, if any, dents. All the valves were working. The shop was asking $125 and I offered $100. Sold. I looked over once I got home and looked it up on the Conn Loyalist pages. S/N 518353 puts it around 1955 or so. It's the Victor model and it appears to either be a 6B (early model) or perhaps a 10B, judging by what I read online. Can anyone help me better understand what model this is? One note - I record for a living, so this horn will get used by lots of great players and will end up on many a record... I'd hate to think of a nice instrument being hacked on for eternity:) Thanks much- Lee Pics---> http://www.pbase.com/infiniteposse/conn_victor ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by infiniteposse; 12-06-2006 at 01:28 PM. |

![]() | Very nice find. I think it's a 22B Victor. Not a 6B, not a 10B (Coprion bell). I'm a Victor fan and owner (6B) - tell us how it plays once you find a good mouthpiece for it. Many of us find that they play best with old Conn mouthpieces.

![]() | Thanks for the detail Dale. Appreciated. How did you make the distinction of the 22B vs. the other models? I'm a complete newb at this, so I'm mostly curious. Thanks again. Lee |

![]() | The 10B had a Coprion (copper) bell, so it's easy to rule that one out. The early 6B and 22B are very similar, but the '55 22B had the nickel bands around the brass valve cases. I think all 6B's had valve cases that were entirely nickel plated. The sure-fire way to tell is to measure the bell flare diameter. The 6B bell will have a 5-1/8" dia, while the 22B will have a 4-5/8" dia. I'll credit "The Conn Loyalist" site as the source for most of this info. Thanks to Christine for all her research!

![]() | Hello Everyone, May I suggest to take a look at this webpage http://www.xs4all.nl/~cderksen/ConnArticle36.html Thanks to Christine, my '56 Conn Victor 22B sound a LOT better! I will probably take Dale's advice and look for an old Conn mouthpiece, thank you Dale. It sure look like a '55 Victor 22B to me. Marc |

![]() | I just purchased a 1956 Conn 6B Victor for $450 in all original shape. Mine is how Dale described. The entire valve casing and connected slides are nickelplated and has the larger buttons and bottom sprung valves. I too have tried many modern bach mpc and don't like any of them. My horn came with a Conn 5 and I already had a vintage Conn Connstellation 7BW that I really like with it. The only other mpc I like on it is a Mt Vernon 17c2. I just got a Mt Vernon 7C today that I have yet to try on it. Sounds like a good deal on the horn. Here's one pic of it but I'll try and post more. ![]()

![]() | Re: Beginners luck, Pt. 2 - Just found a 1955 Conn Victor Lee, you found yourself a great trumpet. I have a 1948 22B and I love it (actually, I wish I had found this one.... ) Marc, I am happy someone found my thing on valves useful. I suspect there are LOTS of Conn cornets and trumpets out there that could benefit greatly from a proper alignment. And it is really not difficult, you can do it yourself with the right cork and or felts. Regards, Christine
