    Besson Parts

I just picked up a Besson 8-10 cornet from the late '50s. It plays really well and is in overall good shape, but it is missing one of the bottom valve caps. To make matters worse, the remaining two don't match!

Searches of past threads and the net haven't helped me locate a source for replacements. Can anyone here give me direction? I'd like to stay period correct for the horn but will consider other options if need be.

As a note, on Sunday morning I was playing it in the kitchen. It had been drying in pieces on the counter from a thorough cleaning the night before. My 8 year old daughter yelled down from her room and asked if that was a different horn, she really like the sound. I thought it was cool she could tell the difference!

    Thanks.

Do you normally play in the kitchen?

    Veery715,

I know, strange place, but I was making certain the valves were in right after reassembly! Acoustics in the kitchen match my normal practice space due to hardwood floors with area rugs.

Yes the kitchen seems to be a good place. It is in my house. I used to have and 8-10 cornet and enjoyed it, but had trouble controlling the sound output like I wanted to and a regular cup mute got swallowed up without connecting to the inside of the large bell opening. I finally sold it to a college student in Minnesota who wanted a cornet. I don't know where you could get replacement caps. When I wanted to replace the old valves on my 8-10, I got help from Charmain Slatten, the Horn Hunter, who had a number of 2-20 valves around and supplied me with a set, which works fine a couple of years later.
She might have some ideas for you. crs1charmaine@aol.com, ph 562 4230063 or 562 768062
