Boston Trumpet

I have a Boston trumpet serial # 9367 which according to horn-u-copia says it was made in 1887. The horn is in very good shape and I have had the valves re-done by Anderson's Plating and the horn plays very well. The seller said it was .470 bore but when I measure the second valve slide it comes closer to .460. I wish that I could post pictures but my camera and computer don't like each other. If you look at horn-u- copia and look up Boston trumpet it looks exactly like the .470 bore trumpet there but not as shiney. Does anyone know a ball park figure on it's value?? I would like to play this horn outside of my house [community band and such] but if it is to valuable I will keep it at home.

Re: Boston Trumpet

The way I look at it is that you have a horn, play it. Where is the value in leaving a beautiful horn like that out of the public's eye. People don't buy Monette trumpets for $5000+ to leave them at home because of their value. And do you think you would do it justice by letting it stay home? The best thing to do is to take and and play it, whether it is worth $10 or $10000, it is a horn and it is meant to be played.
