Here are the details for my Reynolds cornet, recently acquired on ebay and a joy! It's raw brass as is, and the seller told me that the valve caps (lower ones) are not original so if anyone knows of any, I'd be glad to hear from them.

Cheers
Chris
Never too late! By your description and my current model descriptions, that'd be Model B3.

Yes, the lower valve caps should have a protruding stem on them, as shown on this illustrative photo:

Sometimes it's just easier buying a junk horn for parts than trying to find original replacement parts, especially with horns from the 1940s...

Many thanks ElShaddai,

Re: Calling all vintage Reynolds owners... request for info

I recently acquired a Reynolds d4 from about 1949 (pictures on the Gearhead Page of my two bit web site). It has a heavy sterling bell. Has the super fancy engraving and the whole horn is silver plated (appears to be original). The horn is in good shape when I got it but the valves needed help. I currently have it getting a valve re-do and alignment with Charlie Melk. I'm really, really looking forward to getting this horn back... I think it has a LOT of potential! (unlike me...)

I know it's not from the time period, or of the quality more interesting to everybody looking at this thread, but I must share regardless.
I am now the proud owner of my first cornet (I am a past trumpet player), a Reynolds Medalist SN 284663. It must have had a pretty rough life... it's about the ugliest piece of brass I've seen, but it sounds fantastic (to me, at least)!

Come on Mark! Anyone who keeps Llamas has to have a LOT OF POTENTIAL. I'll have to take another look at your horn.

Hey Chris,
Hope that Reynolds is still serving you well......I am having second thoughts about having sold it now!!!!
Contempora corner is a great site that I use all the time for research and TM is equally as useful.
Have fun
Damian

Hiya Damian,

good to meet you here! I should have guessed.
That Contempora site is the mustard isn't it.

I am loving the Reynolds every bit as much as my new Recording, they are both a joy to play.

Wishing I had not bought that Yam 6345 now! Its very nice in its way, but not a patch on the other 2.

Hope all going well for you, did you get that new horn you mentioned?
Let us know if you go to Falmouth, Cornwall.

Chris

Re: Calling all vintage Reynolds owners... request for info

I have recently accuired an old F.A. Reynolds trumpet, serial number "248".
Its smelly and needs to be cleaned on the inside but I think its in pretty good condition. I want to get it ready to sell... The local music shop gave me a basic quote of $77 to get it 'player ready'.

Re: Calling all vintage Reynolds owners... request for info

I hope this area is still being monitored. I have an Old Reynolds cornet that my father played in the 7th grade (1953-54). My great grandparents picked it up from a pawnshop in Chickasha, OK. The serial number is 20194. It has a very ornately engraved bell which has Reynolds down the center with an F and A engraved on either side of the R. next to the third valve is a lower case script "f". The brass is multi toned with lead pipe, non-engraved portions of the outside of the bell as silver. The inside of the bell is laquered as well as the curved portions of the slides, the braces, the lower half of valve cluster and the engraved portion of the bell. Any information would be greatly appreciated
