Glad you can use this data. expropriation is the confiscation of private property with the express purpose of establishing equality, per Wiki.
The Communists took over that area of Eastern Europe in 1945 and just took private businesses and turned them in to State run enterprises until Communism fell apart after 1989. I doubt of owners of the majority of the businesses received much compensation and that is probably why the Kielwerth's set up shop out of Communist control in west Germany.
