![]() | Can Anyone ID this Cornet? This is the Buescher cornet I mentioned in a different thread. My grandfather played it in the 1936 All-Pennsylvania band, so it has a lot of sentimental value. I spent a lot of time cleaning its insides just to get it functional, but it needs a valve job (eventually) to solve its remaining problems. I know by the serial number that this was manufactured around 1907, but I can't figure out the exact model. The closest picture I've found to it was a 1950's model 400 cornet, but I don't know for sure that the model 400 was around yet in 1907. Any info you can provide would be GREATLY apprecieated! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() | Re: Can Anyone ID this Cornet? That looks like a "No. 2 New Long Model Epoch True-Tone Cornet". http://www.horn-u-copia.net/books/Buescher%201909.pdf Free registration may be required. My 400 trumpet was my grandfather's as well. It remains my primary horn. No reason to substitute anything else, though I have a couple of other (Buescher) horns for fun. I figure, if I can't play this horn, then I have no business playing at all. Sometimes I wonder why people at the non-professional level get all caught up in the "horn safari". ![]() | Re: Can Anyone ID this Cornet? Oh, by the way, about the Epoch system. It was believed then (and some believe now!) that airflow through the horn matters. It actually doesn't, because it's a resonant system and there is almost no air flow. You can test this for yourself by making soap bubbles with your bell and playing in front of a mirror. Tom |

![]() | Re: Can Anyone ID this Cornet? Also by the way, "400" is the model name, not number. Why 400? Your guess is as good as anyone else's but it might be related to the Chicago and North Western's signature train, "The 400", which ran (about) 400 miles in (about) 400 minutes from Chicago to Minneapolis.
