screamingmorris has a spectacular aura about
Conn Loyalist improvements

The Conn Loyalist Web page entitled
"Conn Trumpet Recognition Guide"
The Conn Loyalist
has long been of immense value in helping us identify vintage Conn trumpets and cornets.

Now if you go to Conn Loyalist at
The Conn Loyalist
you see that it has a new page link entitled
"Improved Cornet and Trumpet Recognition Guide"
The Conn Loyalist

That new page is set up to use in the same manner as some of those IRS guides that instruct us "If A then go to X, if B then go to Y".

I have not read through it enough to know whether I like it more or like it less than the old recognition guide.
I hope others will try using that new page and give us their critiques here.

But one thing does become obvious in glancing through that new page at Conn Loyalist:
Christine knows this stuff more thoroughly than anyone else in the world.
The amount of knowledge needed to come up with that one new page alone is amazing.

Re: Conn Loyalist improvements

First impression is that it will be easier to use, once you get the methodology in your head, and go slowly, examining the instrument carefully, step by step and not get impatient. All the data should line up and make sense in your mind before going on to the next identifying factor, no matter how simple it seems at first glance. I think this is the best chance to identify the instrument available.

This type of organization of data, like Morris says, is like the IRS returns, although hopefully, you won't have to pay a penalty for a mis-identification. Using this, in conjunction with the photos of many of the models, will aid in narrowing down the answer to the particular questions raised and her site has sure helped me learn more about Conn's and instruments in general.

Kudos to Christine (again).

Re: Conn Loyalist improvements

The new recognition guide appears to be an attempt to simplify the process, but it also has many fewer links (it has 2) and consequently fewer photos (only 1). As such it requires a much smaller space on the server and is less demanding on the dynamics of that server, allowing for greater efficiency of the site. While some may find it works better, I sincerely hope the original guide is not taken away because to me the photos are of great value.
Whatever, keep up the good service, Christine!

connloyalist is on a distinguished road
Re: Conn Loyalist improvements

Actually, the pictures in the original recognition guide are just links, so they don't really take up much space at all. I can add them to the new recognition guide. Perhaps that is a good idea.

Regards, Christine
