Cornet ?

Hi..My father has a cornet that he has had since high school...I am trying to find out it's estimated value. Is there a place to go to do that? It's a King Super 20 Master Cornet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Cornet ?

Yep.... go to Ebay, "drill down" through musical instruments to brass and do a search for King Master cornet in "completed items". That should tell you current closing prices. Watch out for things like the condition etc. and special features such as the sterling bell which can greatly affect the value.

Re: Cornet ?

Make sure that you consider whether it has a sterling silver bell or brass bell as the value will differ depending on that a condition. If you decide to auction it you might consider using a Ebay seller service unless you've got a lot of positive Ebay feedback. www.trumpetherald.com Marketplace is also an excellent place to sell trumpets and cornets. I prefer selling there due to the high interest level of the members and the quick process.

Take good pictures if you sell.

There is a "marketplace" right here too! It wouldn't hurt to post a picture or two.

True and I agree 100% with the suggestion.

I list both here and at TH and have gotten faster reactions over there. I've sold a couple of trumpets, a flugel and several mouthpieces and all sold over on TH in less than 24-hours (sometimes just minutes). My Ebay feedback is all as a purchaser, because I sell everything so fast over at TH. Good pictures and a fair asking price are critical to a good transaction, in my experience.

Be careful where ever you buy and sell. I've had really good experience, but you really need to check out both buyers and sellers.

Re: Cornet ?

I will keep all that in mind. I have really good feedback on ebay. I haven't researched the trumpet herald in detail yet but will definately make time to do so.

From my experience, a lot of players do it the other way round - list the cornet on ebay, and then provide the link to the listing either in the TM or TH marketplace. Doing it the other way round should work just as well!

Re: Cornet ?

Lack of feedback will kill you on Ebay, so you'd need to go thru a broker like "Sold It" and pay them a commission. Here or on Trumpet Herald you could tell your story and the prospective buyer would exchange stories with you.

Some people do in fact list here and reference an Ebay auction. That's ok with TM and TH but you need to abide by Ebay's rules once you've listed there. Most people only go to Ebay after failing here and/or on TH.

Here and on TH it's not an auction, so you need to set a fair price. I see rediculous prices often and those don't draw any interest. Find out what comparable horns are really moving for and list at that and take really good pictures, clearly showing the condition. Fail on either of those and you're unlikely to have a good sale. As a buyer, I take great comfort in good pictures and clear honest answers to my questions of the seller. Weasle around and many good buyers will move on.
