Cornet back from the engraver!

My Bach 184G (gold brass bell) cornet just returned from Artistic Engraving. What a fantastic job! These pics don't really do it justice, but you get the idea. I had Sherry do the "Bach Stradivarius Deluxe" design, which runs the entire length of the bell (on a shepherds crook, it even curls down the backbow). Beautiful detail, and a fast turnaround - it really is "Artistic Engraving"! This cornet is the best playing horn I've ever owned, and I thought it deserved a little extra personality - definitely old school now.

Do you mind if I ask what that cost? I would love to do that to a horn sometime.
It looks incredible.

Thanks. It's cheaper than you would think - $180 + shipping for this design.

Awesome Bling -- way cooler than the scratch finish with shiny parts that is in vogue now!

Yes, you should have seen the smile on my face when I opened the case. I think I said the same thing. I wanted that turn-of-the-century cornet look (1900, not 2000!), and I think this is it. I'm partial to lacquered horns, especially ones with tri-color metals, like the Olds Recording.

Short story - I joined a brass band a few years ago and needed a good cornet. I wanted this exact model horn, and sold my Mt. Vernon Strad trumpet on eBay to raise the funds. Problem was, I couldn't find a Bach dealer who was willing to order it for me. A special order cornet like this - short model, large bore, gold brass bell, deluxe engraving - would take a year or more to get. I found this one used (a '93 model) on a web site and bought it. Turned out to be the best playing horn I've ever owned. Last year I discovered that the artist who had engraved Bach horns for many years has her own business and could do the factory "Bach Stradivarius Deluxe" engraving on my cornet. That was the last thing missing from my vision, so off it went to Sherry Huntley of "Artistic Engraving". Less than 2 weeks later, it's back on my doorstep. I highly recommend her work.

GAW-WA-JUSSS, DALE, JUST GAW-WAH-JUSS.

My short cornet is also my favorite horn. There's something about the sound of a short cornet with a proper mouthpiece!!!

Sherry does great work. She's also engraved Cliff Blackburn's personal cornets. I saw them a few years ago. Gorgeous work!

Warmest regards,

Tom
