| Cornet Question Trptmaster Administrator member is offline Posts: 336 Cornet Question « Thread started on: 11/03/2003 at 15:11:53 » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok friends I own an antique cornet but not a modern one. If I were to go out and drop some $ bones $ on a modern cornet what would I be looking for. I have heard Getzen and Bach thrown around when people talk about cornets. And the Wild Thing but I don't think I have the $ for that. Talk to me. A used Getzen 800LB would be a option as well. Cheers, Ted ......... you will need a Sparx Cornet Mouthpiece with these......... Are they for cornets? What can you tell me about your stuff. I am just looking around right now but I want to learn more about cornets. Ted runs an instrument repair service in Toronto and plays with the Hannaford Street Silver Band http://www.hannafordband.com/ who are certainly one of the best brass bands outside the UK. So Ted was able to take the best of both worlds when he worked with Gary Radtke of GR Technologies to design and build his set of MPs. Check out his site, and if you play a cornet, try one of his mounthpieces! http://www.sparxmusic.com/index.shtml Logged -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bill Olds Mendez, Recording, Super, Special, Ambassador trumpets/GR 65M Olds Opera cornet/Sparx 4B Schilke MII trumpet/GR 65M Bach Flug/Bach 7CFL Trptmaster Administrator member is offline Posts: 336 Re: Cornet Question « Reply #4 on: 11/03/2003 at 19:01:38 » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wow sounds great. Brass band music? Dixie? Small combo? Orchestra? Private "fun playing"? The answer to your question lies partly in the answer to those questions. But, having said that, I really lusted after the Lawler cornet...especially in brush lacquer with bright highlights! It is to drool over! I even had a picture of one for my "desktop" for a while ... Yummy! Then I found out the price for a new one ...not unexpected but too much for this guy. Still...used..............could be a great deal. Oh..and Sparx mp? One word......."Fantastic". But do yourself a favor and get the cornet first! THEN talk to Ted. (and after that you'll be onto Bruce for a GR for your trumpet too!) « Last Edit: 11/03/2003 at 21:57:10 by Tootsall » Logged |
