![]() | Correct Conical Bottom Valve Springs for King Liberty #2 Trumpets Hello to all and fellow King Liberty Trumpet players. I have two well kept 1935-36 King Liberty #2 Trumpets. One in Silver Brush plate other in honey gold laquer, both have the nice upgrade deep etched engraving on the bells, the King company had some great engravers back then. The brass horn before having it chem cleaned, dent removal, valve kit rebuild etc. had it's original thin cork/felt set up with soft action bottom pyramid conical springs. The new replacement springs installed were the older Conn 22B Pyramid conical springs. These work fine but are very stiff and have extra strong pushing up action. A little tough on a 59 year old hand and fingers, more up and down tension than I care for. My Silver plated one has a new valve kit,but still has the same softer springs like was on my brass King Liberty. Can these softer springs still be bought? Bandroom1 had a universal pyramid bottom spring that was somewhat better than the Conn 22b spring, but not quite as easy feeling. I thought the Conn Director15B or 17B pyramid springs would be about right, but was told they are still the same Conn 22B pyramid spring. Anyone have a clue where to get the right bottom springs and maybe the older corks and extra thin felts? I sent a e-mail to music tech. Smith on the H.N.White site as well. Thanks for any thoughts info. etc. For a older come back player these Liberty's and my King Master cornet are all I need. One other horn though, I do miss was a 1941 Conn 36A Concert Grand Cornet, having bigger and heavier valves, the Conn 22B bottom springs worked great in it. Hope to run across a well kept and preserved one again someday. Thanks again all. |
