![]() | Couesnon alto flugelhorn I have an instrument made by Couesnon in the 80's. It is an F horn, has great intonation, fingerings are just like a trumpet, sounds just like a French horn. I have tried to research this horn. As usual , can't find much about Couesnon, except what's on theri website right now. I have found pictures of this horn and it is called a solo tenor horn or alto flugelhorn. Has anyone heard of these or know someone else who has one. I just can't say enough about the quality of this horn.

![]() | Re: Couesnon alto flugelhorn I have a similar Couesnon, although mine is in Eb. It looks for all the world like what several manufacturers have called a "solo alto". Takes a trumpet shank mouthpiece (I use a Wick 2 tenor horn mouthpiece in it). I don't know for sure what Couesnon called them when they were being sold here, but you can find photos on horn-u-copia.net - look at the DuPont solo alto, as well. |

![]() | Re: Couesnon alto flugelhorn If you look at any of the so called 'alto flugelhorns' and point the bell upwards, you can see that it is actually a tenor horn....same sized bell, same length....same darn horn. I used to own a Couesnon altoflugel....bought it with the hope of being able to use it for tenor horn solo's, but the intonation was just not there, so I sold it. I play a besson tenor horn and the alto flugel plays just the same with the exception of the receiver is different than a tenor horn so the sound is slightly impacted by the different mouthpiece. |
