![]() | Does anyone know about this??? Hey. I was looking through a flea market a few weeks back and picked up a few old horns for fun. The first was an old 1936 Conn Pan American cornet which was in pretty good shape after a little polishing. It has the brushed silver and gold burnished bell. The other one however is still a mystery to me... The bell has an interesting ingraved design and in the middle it says "U.S. Band Instrument Phila. PA" So, after looking that up on the web, i found nothing. Then, I noticed on the tip where the mouthpiece fits on, it say Czecho-Slovakia. There isnt any writing on the actual mouthpiece, but it looks just has old as the horn. The serial number on the second valve casing is 15. If anyone knows anything about this I'd love to learn! I have pictures attached if this helps!!!! |

| Forte User | Re: Does anyone know about this??? It is some "stencil" made in Czechoslovakia, as thousands were for many years, for sale by some US music store or retailer who called it the US Band Instrument, Phila. Looks to be 30's design. There isn't anything on that tradename on Horn-u-copia, but there were very numerous stencil names that cannot be tracked down easily. Looks to be in decent shape. Most likely a student grade horn. Sounds like a fun flea market! I have had horns with that same nationality script around the leader pipe. My current Czech trumpet has the full name stamped under the leaderpipe near the valve casing.

![]() | Re: Does anyone know about this??? Looks like one of the most common Bohland & Fuchs stencil models. I have one called "Perfactone", unfortunately not playable due to both a rotted leaderpipe and worn valves, but it has a quiet nice tone and feels like must have been very easy to play in its day. Now, the really interesting thing is that I have tried a trumpet of this model made by Bohland & Fuchs but sold under their own name and that trumpet was much better! Heavier brass, better craftsmanship, just all through better... Not as good as pro trumpets of its day, but much better than most of those they stenciled for other brands. |

| Forte User | Re: Does anyone know about this??? Thanks Krax, your informative posts are welcome to help add data from the European perspective. I see a very similar B & F trumpet, reply 5 on HUC except it doesn't have a stop rod.

| Forte User | Re: Does anyone know about this??? Thanks. I am retired and have lots of time. I was an insurance investigator for many years and have also done a lot of genealogy, so like to connect the dots and unravel mysteries and help folks a bit whien I can and am impatient to get the answers as quickly as possible. I have just got into the horn scene in this way the last couple years fuelded by ebay and these forums. I have progressed to being less of an ignoramus and usually recognize when I should defer to those more knowledgeable, which are in the millions.

![]() | Re: Does anyone know about this??? Hi. I live in Perth Western Australia. about a year ago I was given a trumpet that was found at the local tip. (rubbish tip) On the bell it has engraved "Hardel made in USA" Serial number 20232. I have not been able to obtain any information on the maker or the history of the instrument itself. I would be greatful for any assistance. L.Lim |
