Earl Williams Trumpet

Hi All,
I'm new to this forum and have an interesting old horn that I need info on.It is an "Earl Williams" Los Angeles. As a trombonist, I know that his trombones were/ are famous and highly sought after. I never knew he made trumpets. Perhaps he only made a few. Since he was affiliated with Olds in the 30s, I am assuming the valve section is olds and he may have made the bell and leadpipe.Williams bones, if you can find an original, sell for big$. Does anyone have any knowlege about Earl Williams trumpets? I'll try to post a pic.

Re: Earl Williams Trumpet

Welcome to the forum. I looked all over the net but didn't find a mention of the trumpets, but learning about Williams was interesting and his connection with others significant players of the era. I would suspect you are right about just a few being made. Must be a nice horn, though. Maybe someone else may have more info. Not being a bone player, I hadn't heard of him.

Re: Earl Williams Trumpet

I have heard of Earl's trombones, but never trumpets. Looks like quite a find. Is it in good shape?

Re: Earl Williams Trumpet

Thanks Guys, This horn is .443 bore. It is in excellent condition. It's finish is polished raw brass. The valves are fast and light with perfect plating. The horn has a really nice blow, kind of like a benge. Definately an "LA style" horn. Kind of reminiscent of the old Conn 22B's also. This horn looks like it was hardly used, not a dent or scratch. Even the original case is excellent. A customer of mine mentioned that he had it and new nothing about Earl Williams. I, of course, am keenly aware of his bones. I've not found any info on his trumpets, nor heard from anyone who knows about them. It's kind of like if Bob Malone had built a few trombones, you know they've got to be pretty decent. Anyhow, I'll continue my research. If anyone is interested in this rare trumpet, make me a "real" offer. Email Paul at pbob63@frontiernet.net.

Re: Earl Williams Trumpet

Sorry to be bringing back a thread from earlier in the year, but I have an Earl Wiliams Bass Trumpet that's from his Burbank shop. It has a .500 bore and 8" yellow brass bell. I'm also a trombonist and love my Williams' horns!!

That's Ok, got me wondering what the Drbone63 finally found out about the trumpet and if he sold it.Seems like there are some interesting examples of his work out there.

Does anyone know what happened to the photos? They were only posted in February but when I click on the links, I have only a blank page. Do photos drop off after some length of time?
