![]() | etherna by getzen I have recently found an etherna by getzen trumpet model Doc Severinsen serial number sk-12380 dated from 1968-1971. I was reading in getzen's website that the new etherna production is considered semi-professional quality. Does anyone knows how valuable this vintage trumpet is? Can it be rated professional quality according to the standards for that production period? I am interested to start a collection of vintage trumpets. Any reference reading material on this subject?? Thank you for your inputs and replies. |

Peace-RV Ps- I played one for about 7 years...I'm sorry that I traded it. |

![]() ![]() | Re: etherna by getzen I had one of the first Eterna's made by Getzen. I received it for Christmas in 1973 from my father. It was a third hand horn. My father was so cheap he wouldn't buy anything new. Not even Christmas presents. My trumpet teacher used it and then his daughter used it. When I unpacked it the case was worn hard and the silver plate was worn down to the brass on the first valve. (1973) Later that year my father and I were on the way to my sisters house in Milwaukee. It was a Saturday but I suggested we stop in Elkhorn and visit the Getzen factory. As we arrived so did the sales manager. He gave us tour of the factory and suggested I send in the horn for refurbishment. I sent it later in the week and the result was a completely updated and replated horn. Same serial number. The cost was $42.50. In 1985 I traded the horn for a Bach. Somewhere in St. Louis is an old serial number Eterna with new brackets and plating. It played great. That horn could be on its fourth or fifth owner.

![]() | Re: etherna by getzen Yes, it really would be interesting to know what your Getzen Severinson model is worth. I thought mine was in the same age bracket but it's stamped LB SK-6435 so must be older. It's the best playing horn I've ever had. I got it from Rich Matteson, a wonderful man and a low brass Getzen clinician in about 1972. Before that I played an Olds Opera which I got by trading in the Olds Recording I used when I started college. That horn I got from Alan Dean when he was moving into something better. |

![]() | Re: etherna by getzen I never heard of Freddie playing an ETERNA 900S .At one time, I was priveledged to spend a fair amount of time talking with Freddie . This was in the early 70's. I could be wrong , but I just don't remember him ever talking about a Getzen. The ETERNA 900S is a fine vintage trumpet though. You can cet one from Dillon's for about $600.00 Last edited by ZeuSter; 11-15-2007 at 08:20 AM. |

![]() | Re: etherna by getzen Hi, If memory serves, there is a photo of Freddie brandishing a Getzen Eterna on the back of the album cover of his first "disco" record. "Windjammer". Geez, I'm getting old Cheers, Brian

![]() | Re: etherna by getzen Freddie's trumpet while on CTI was a Conn 8B. He switched to a lacquered Getzen Eterna when he recorded his first dates for Columbia records. High Energy Liquid Love Bundle of Joy The Love Connection.... also...the 1st VSOP release. he switched to Calicchio when he recorded "Super Blue". Peace-RV |
