Question FA Reynolds Trumpet

Hi

I have had a sterling silver bell FA Reynolds trumpet (serial no 883) for 20 years now.
I am in England and it is a mystery to me how it got here.
I believe it is quite an early model and wondered if anyone has any info they might share about it with me?

Thanks in advance
Andrew B

HI Andrew, welcome to the forum. Here is a link to Contempora Corner, the best resource to find out about that interesting horn. Welcome to Contempora Corner! Also you can go and sign up at Horn-u-copia and peruse through their Reynolds information.

They started with 0001 in 1936 and by 1940 serials were up to 5000. I think Reynolds made a lot of horns for US military bands so that may be a possibility during WWII. Does it have any markings of that sort?

Re: FA Reynolds Trumpet

There's lots of mystery with reynolds trumpets. I've never been able to identify my model, just date it to 1964. Their factory was moved to texas at this time because of a merger with olds. I wish we knew more about this company but it seems like a lot of information about this company is missing.

True, I have a couple Reynolds military models. Great horns by the way. Most are marked "U.S." if nothing else.

Re: FA Reynolds Trumpet

Checked all over, only says reynolds on the bell, has a serial(2062XX) and says TR500ZSU on the mouthpiece receiver. It plays wonderful, I kind of enjoy the mystery of it.

How did you determine that your horn has a Sterling Silver bell? The vast majority of Reynolds trumpets and cornets were made with either silver plated brass or lacquered brass. An extremely small number were made with solid Sterling Silver bells.

Re: FA Reynolds Trumpet

Hi
Thanks to all for the responses which were more than I expected.

The instrument was purchased by me in terrible condition and the owner didn't have a clue what was under the tarnished metal. I bought it for £80. Once I had had it restored the restorer informed me it was a sold silver bell. It has a £ sign on it. I've included pictures of the instrument in an album in my profile which is public if you'd like to take a look. The definition of the images isn't that great but that's the restraints of the website.
Thanks for all your help.

Welcome to Contempora Corner! Looks like you have one of the rare ones like these. Welcome to Contempora Corner! Great find. Thanks for sharing it on the forum.
How it got to the UK would be nice to know. If horns could talk!

Nice rare horn. Interesting the bracing is very similar to the Olds of the same time period. Reynolds had his hands in everything and every company over the years.....
