![]() | Re: Francis Larkin GREAT shape for that old of a horn...you polish it up? Noticed VERY LONG tuning slide screw...much longer than I've seen on other vintage horns...unbraced tuning slide, (like the old Conn 22-B)..INTERESTING. Since its your GREAT grandfather's...baby it. A gentle, but good internal cleaning, keep everything lubed up. IF you want to play it, a professional cleaning and a valve alignment for a few bucks would be a good investment. Any of us can recommend a number of excellent repair guys. Didn't notice IF you play trumpet, as yet. IF NOT...don't use this family treasure to learn...save it (trust me, its embarrasing what we ALL did to our very first student horns...accidents just happen). Enjoy. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Francis Larkin So it's a Bb/A horn. Cornets of the period have a separate slide for the pitch change as well as a tuning slide. I'd venture it is a rarity, so take good care of it. Even though you usually play your strad, you should still give the Larkin a good workout so you can find out how its intonation and valves are. Playing it won't hurt it. And what kind of sound does it produce?
