Question Greetings! Question about a vintage Getzen

Hello all! My name is Dan. Right now, you are saying "Hi, Dan" to the screen like it's an AA meeting :). I played trumpet for a good many years as an adolesent. I have since found my nitch in percussion, and have not touched my horn since. Poor horn! It's been about 10 years! Well, I am trying to move to Australia and was looking through my old gear to see what I could sell. I can't really find much information on the horn :(. Seems to be made pre-fire and around the late 40's (serial number 86405). What's a little odd to me is that I can not find a Getzen that looks like it! It is alost pewter in color, wth silver highlights. Let me show you;

As you can see, I need to clean it up a bit, but it's in perfect working order! Just a coupla dings here and there, all small. Sorry for the poor quality picture, but it's from my phone. I have the original case and mouthpiece! Is this fine horn worth anything, or am I wasting my time? I appreciate any info! Thanks.

Dan

Welcome Dan, to TM!

One of our members is Brett Getzen of the Getzen Company. You might want to send him a Personal Message: Click on "Member's List" above, click on the letter "B," and you'll find him on page 9 of the B's.

Your instrument most likely has a satin-silver finish, which was relatively common back then, and is coming back into vogue now.

Enjoy TM!

Welcome to the TM Dan!

Good advice, contact Brett.

BTW in one of my favorite movies, "Support Your Local Sheriff",
James Garner was always trying to move to Australia!

Have a good stay here at TM

The horn is a Getzen Super Deluxe. From the serial number I would guess that it was made in the mid to late fifties. They were good intermediate level horns back then. The finish however is a stumper for me. The company never did anything like that back in the day. I would say that it was done later one by a previous owner and not at the factory.

Hope this helps. Let me know if there is anything else you would like to know.
