Help me find the age of this Trumpet

I recently bought a trumpet from an antique store, and it plays beautifully but i can't determine the age of this instrument.

It is a Conn 18B and the serial on the valve casings say HB011181

If anyone could help me find the age that would be greatly appreciated

Edit: It's a Brass bell, not a coprion

Hey! Check out the Conn Loyalist Website

They have the serial numbers from late Elkhart to the post-Elkhart years too.

I have been, I haven't been able to see a serial number beginning with "HBxxxxxx" I've found H's and i've found a possible reasoning for what the B stands for but this trumpet doesn't look like it's been around since the 1800's. Possibly a late 50's or 60's model?

Alright, time for you to upload a few pics of the horn in question.
Others here can easily the model by just looking at it. Bell engravings will also help.

You said yours doesn't have a coprion bell, but does it have the same sideways tuning slide brace like the one in the photos have?

Here's the list of known models on Conn Loyalist,

It's always possible the coprion bell was removed and replaced with a brass bell from a different horn, also possible that this 18B Director was made specially without a coprion bell.

Hopefully you find what you're looking for.

    1980:

When there are two letters in the serial, this is the convention
    H - 1980s [8th letter in English-Latin alphabet, representing the 8th decade in the 20th century - G was 1970s for instance]
    B - February [2nd alphabet letter representing 2nd month]
    0 - 1980 [singular year; 1 means 1981, etc.]
1 - trumpet/cornet [it was more consistent in the 1970s but this varies]
1181 - instrument made that month

This used to be on Music Trader site but that page is down currently

Now i'm beginning to worry that I've been wrong all together, it doesn't have the diagnose slide bracket but it does have the 3rd slide ring.IMG_20161231_191817479.jpgIMG_20161231_191833887.jpgIMG_20161231_191852685.jpgIMG_20161231_191909272.jpg

Wow! Thank you, i was starting to go a little mad over how i guess this company started reusing their numbers and designs and such, i felt it was a too new for a an 1800's or even the 1920's. But that seems just about right, Thankyou.

This was the standard Conn student trumpet from ~November 1979 [GK922080 is the earliest I've seen] to 1986. This iteration has the bell stamp used on the 16X horns but Bach/Blessing-type pistons instead of Conn-type pistons with a barrel enclosing the spring [used on 16A/B]. In 1981, S-prefix serials and a new bell stamp were used, and in 1982, Amado waterkeys were added.
In 1985, they went back to lever waterkeys, some models [like 18H] changed the bell stamp, and in late 1986, this model was renamed 20B.

No problem - Conn serials from the 1970s onward are a complete mess and run in several directions, but most can be pinpointed until the 1990s [consolidated into King sequence which restarted several times in the 2000s]...

Re: Help me find the age of this Trumpet

Well, Thank you either way, i was searching for a new trumpet, I'm in my senior year of highschool and I've been playing on the same trumpet for 12 years and it has been bashed and abused for so long and i was out powering it with my performance after i got a taste of playing on a professional trumpet for about a year. I went around my city trying to find a trumpet that i could afford and was a little better than what i had. I stumbled upon this in an antique store and payed $110 for it, and everything seems really nice and functional though not the prettiest one in the world. When i took it home and it cleaned up it played a little bit better than the King Super 20 i had been borrowing for myself wise. The boring almost feels larger than that King and it feels a lot nicer in the hand for me. Thank you.
