![]() | Holton New Proportion Cornet This is my first posting to this site and forum. I now own my father-in-law's Holton New Proportion cornet. It is a "Chicago" horn, mouthpiece #70A with a serial number(?) = 25465 stamped into the side of the middle valve body. I am interested in the following: a. Since it is marked as a "Chicago" horn, is it safe to assume that it could be dated 1918 or before? b. The approximate value of this item to a collector or musician should I wish to sell it (not likely, but...) c. The name and contact information of a competent and reputable restoration company/person should I want to have this item restored. Any feedback would be appreciated. I know nothing about brass instruments. I used to play the clarinet! |

| Forte User | Re: Holton New Proportion Cornet Welcome to the forum! Clarinet players are always welcome. The serial list on Horn-u-copia would date to 1914-5 area, so definitely a Chicago horn. Holton put Elkhorn on his models after he moved. There are many good shops we use for horn restorations. A few are: Doctor Valve, Trumpet Repair and Restoration Trumpets, Horns (French and otherwise), Repairs, Mouthpieces in Boston robbstewart.com www.andersonsilverplatin.com Charlie's Brass Works - Specializing in Professional Brass Instrument Customization, Repair and Refinishing , JLANDRESSBRASS.COM, Oberloh Woodwind and Brass Works www.dqcustoms.com Welcome to Kanstul Musical Instruments BIW, Inc. Green's Buffing and Instrument Repair - Home The value would be greater after a restoration. Extremely variable. You might go to ebay search and advanced search for any current or sold horns of that general type. There are vintage cornet sites you can get by googling same.
