| Forte User | Re: Hurray for first vintage horn! Thanks, I am retired also, so know what you mean. I think I have blown a few notes on Lou's 36A a while back. I'll see if I can get the TKO. After I used the stripper and sos pads, it may have softened up the lacquer so I have had success in reducing the bell stuff with MAAS applied with paper towels. I don't want to scratch the metal, so would use the sos pads again. I'll take it to our only music store, Marshall's, and see what the tech thinks of the pipe damage. He had done work my horns before. Thanks for the story on your Kings.. As to Sungman's problem with the Parduba, It well maybe that due to his horn being a lot earlier than ours, the insertion diameter may not be modern. My Bach and King mp's fit normally.

![]() | Re: Hurray for first vintage horn! I'd just like to chime in about the mp insertion issue, I have a Master trumpet and when I first got it this was obviously one of the first things I noticed. Apparently, the early Kings take a "short shank" mouthpiece, standard mouthpieces will probably fit with a bit of wiggle room, and it may also be that because of this, the inner diameter of the slot was made irregular through the years. Hope that helped at all... |

| Pianissimo User | Re: Hurray for first vintage horn! Thanks for the info, the reason I was trying to get another mouthpiece is because I think I developed an reaction to the mouthpiece or silver. I haven't used a silver mouthpiece in a very long time and I just recently started when using the cornet mouthpiece and I developed some pains and slight rashes around my lips. I guess the solution is to gold plate the thing/

| Forte User | Re: Hurray for first vintage horn! Yep! Maybe you are used to a Kelly? There have been extensive threads on this subject here and on TH. I recommended a rubber rim cup to a guy that had that problem and evidently it worked to keep the silver away from him.

| Pianissimo User | Re: Hurray for first vintage horn! I'm not really a fan of plastic mouthpieces, because the tone lacked something that metal mouthpieces had. I've been using gold mouthpieces more than anything else. So I think I'll just get the king mouthpiece gold plated rims. Also What mouthpiece manufacturers provide short shank mouthpieces now-a-days? I emailed Dick Akright about it and i'm just waiting.

| Pianissimo User | Re: Hurray for first vintage horn! It looks like yamaha only makes long shanks and standard shank mouthpiece and I thought my parduba was a standard shank. Wouldn't I need a shorter shank mouthpieces, because from the look of it my mouthpiece isn't going in all the way.
