Info on Vintage Selmer Paris Horns?

Well, it's Original here again.

I was browsing through some online shops and noticed one where there were a couple of used Selmer Paris K-Modified's and a Selmer Paris Radial 2.

Now, I know that the K-Mods were built before the Radial was, but I thought I'd get some info on these horns, such as quality compared to modern day trumpets, intonation, slotting, etc.

Also, there was a Martin Handcraft, but I don't know how they are. Any info on those either? I seems that there aren't any rings or intonation aids on the horn at all. Was the horn THAT in tune?

Re: Info on Vintage Selmer Paris Horns?

I own a '58 K, #25 large bore. Projects wonderfully. It's very well built. Has withstood the last 50 years admirably.

It's not as in-tune with itself as a Xeno I tested and my CHS Yamaha Bb. It is as in-tune if not better than some new trumpets I've played.

Alan Rouse knows bunches and is a nice guy. Emailed him prior to buying the K (was my comeback horn 2+ years ago), and he answered my questions.

Glad you have a 60 model going. My dad bought one the same year for use in college and beyond. Had it ten years, they got a Yamaha 734. Wish I had the Selmer back now, as could appreciate it more these days after learning so much on the forums.

Re: Info on Vintage Selmer Paris Horns?

I own both a Selmer Radial Bb and a Radial C (The Bb is a ML & the C is An XL bore) -- The best horns I've ever had, including a K-Mod and a DeVille. Except, that is for a 1960's Bach Strad Vindabona - that horn was magical, but I could never get the owner drunk enough or distracted enough to take possession.
