![]() | New Pics! Hi! I've owned this gold plated Henri Selmer Paris horn since 1965 when I bought it used for $150.00 from Goldie's Music in New Haven, CT. The serial numbers are: 1561 - each valve is numbered accordingly 3-2-1 and the 'Henri Selmer' Paris stamp is above the serial number which is on the back of valve #2. On the end of the lead pipe appear what looks like "Bb" and "LB" with a scribed line over "LP". From the bell to the lst valve is heavily engraved with leaves and vines, and there are the dates 1927 and 1935 on the bell along with "Qualite Artistique", the Henri Selmer Paris seal, "4th Place Dancourt", Paris, and "made in France". The horn is gold plated giving it a "dark" sound. Does anyone out there have any information on it - also, any guesses as to market vale??? Many thanks. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Info wanted - gold plated Selmer Paris How do you know it is gold plated? Lacquered brass was very commonplace (and still is), and is hard to tell from gold plate. Not being skeptical, just curious. Lacquer will show signs of peeling in wear areas, gold plate will just get rubbed through to reveal silver or brass (silver is often the base coat). Satchmo had gold-plated Selmers given to him. veery |

![]() | Re: Info wanted - gold plated Selmer Paris To Veery - Thanks for your response. My Selmer trumpet is just as you described - the gold is worn in several small areas but there is no "peeling" - I've seen brass and laquered horns that have peeled so I know what you mean, but the Selmer is not finished like that. When I bought it, it was sold as a gold-plated horn. It hasn't changed in appearance since 1965. I'm going to try to get some pictures together and get them on line at this site. I noticed you are located in Ithaca, NY. I graduated from IC School of Music in 1970. Ithaca is a great town! |

![]() | Re: Info wanted - gold plated Selmer Paris Hello! I am sorry ---- I have tried to attach photos to this reply, but my attachments will not be accepted. I recieve this message: "Your file of 1.90 MB bytes exceeds the forum's limit of 97.7 KB for this filetype." Please let me know the best way to attach photos so everyone can see the trumpet. Thanks! ![]() | Re: Info wanted - gold plated Selmer Paris I have and use a basic imaging software to size images....If you don't have any, or are unfamiliar with how to use one, I have a simple solution for you.... Resize your images for web viewing and uploading images using windows mail (it's built in by default, and will work even if you use a different e-mail program) ...I use Windows XP, but most Windows versions should work in a similar manner. Do not open any mail programs....just start at the beginning of the 6 steps and follow them. Any Windows computer should be able to do this. 1. Select the files you want by highlighting them (you can select several at once if you wish by holding the control key and clicking the ones you want.) 2. Right click the image file/files you want to upload. 3. Click "send to"....then select "mail recipiant". Windows will ask you if you want to keep the images the same size or re-size them. 4. select the option to resize them. (Windows will automatically re-size your files and then open an e-mail window with the re-sized attachments showing). 5. Drag and drop the attachments to a place where you will be able to find them. (I use my desktop) 6. Close the e-mail without sending it to anyone.... Use the resized images for uploading to the forum. Upsides to using this method....Quick, Easy, and no extra software to mess with. Downsides to using this method....No specific size options, no file adjustment options. Hope this helps, Brian

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Info wanted - gold plated Selmer Paris You may also use a photo hosting site like Photobucket. There is no charge - they blast you with ads - but it is fairly easy to use. Not necessary to resize either - the site offers that feature in an easy to use method. Once you upload your photos, you simply click the IMG link and it copies the image link to your clipboard. Then use TM's Image tool, replace the highlighted http:// by Pasting in your link, to insert the link into a post, This is not data intensive for the TM server, it just plugs in the linked photo dynamically. I have replaced the square brackets with curly ones to display the example. The trumpet image below is displayed by using the [] instead of the {}. You can right click (on PC) over the image. select properties to see the actual link. {IMG}http://www.hickeys.com/img/180s37.gif{/IMG} ![]() veery |
