Question Information on Bohm & Meinl

Hi everyone! I personally am not a trumpet player, but my husband plays professionally. He has talked several times about looking for a vintage trumpet to add to his collection, and I was wondering if anyone could share some information about Bohm & Meinl trumpets. I found one that I was considering getting for him for Christmas, but I didn't want to make the investment if it weren't worth it. The person selling it doesn't know much about it, but what I do know about it is this:
Year of manufacture = undetermined
Finish = unsure, assuming it is brass
#'s 82, 83 and 84 on the tubes for the valves
Valves are tipped in mother of pearl
A few dents, but nothing major.
Any insight would be appreciated!

Re: Information on Bohm & Meinl

I have a Bohm and Meinl B flat rotary trumpet that I bought new from Antique Sound Workshop in Provincetown, Mass. about 15 or so years. Give them a call, they might be able to set you in the right direction. Mine doesn't have pearl tipped valves, just plain paddles. It is a nice horn, though. When I purchased my rotary, there were a few options, regular brass, gold brass, and a nickel silver skirt on the bell to darken the sound.

Hi. This may be the one on Ebay? I am looking at that, also. Seller says valves and 2 slides move fine. They apparently made instruments to sell thru US distributers in 60'-70's? OLDLOU on this forum has a nice one and he may weigh in with more info. I don't know what her reserve is, but probably worth it . Easier to tell once the auction winds down. Dave

Re: Information on Bohm & Meinl

As Dave said, I own a rather nice raw brass B&M trumpet. It is a huge bore instrument at .478" through the valves. I play it often when the job colls for a big, dark sound. I do like mine, but, it is the only B&M that I have ever encountered except for those euphs and tubas made for Getzen by B&M. It is a quality horn in every way.
