Kanstul comes through

For those who are interested here's another testimonial about the nice work the folks at Kanstul do. My LA Benge C trumpet came back from Kanstul today, and it is amazing. The valve re-plate is perfect, with silky smooth action. My teacher gave it his seal of approval... well, as much as a Bach guy can. I also had it silver plated to match my Bb horn, and I'm very happy with the finnish too. I'm happy Zig agreed to take on the job, happy to have her back, and ready to put her to work. We've already put in some quality time together practicing our C trumpet solo for Akademische Festouverture in the community chamber orchestra. Oh, and thanks to all those who have written about Kanstul's nice work here before. Never would've known it was an option if I hadn't joined the site

After (Bb top/C bottom):

Re: Kanstul comes through

my son and i have a Benge ML #40989 Resno-Tempered bell #5 custom built by E-BENGE Los Angles ,Calif., silver Trumpet .
we got in a hundred dollar trade , i have put off getting it repaired ,Daniel has enough to play with for a while.
The local shop estimate is around 400.00$.
The bell is fine, the bell bend behind the first is a little crooked the brace is loose , the bell needs to come off the braces and dents taken out .
valves are ok slides has pop .
Glad to hear they will do repairs .

Daniel:

The #5 is a top notch horn. If you're going to have dent work done on the bell you definitely want someone very good doing the work. I was hanging out at my tech's shop a couple weeks ago, and got to hold a detached LA Benge bell they had just finished fixing. I was stunned by how light it was: Like rice paper; SO thin and delicate.

Re: Kanstul comes through

Thank You Glen
i was not sure about the trumpet , but i knew the Benge name was good.
I traded a nice 300 silver Getzen cornet , i got on e-bay for 280.00 , The girl only had 200.00 and the Benge . I think the repairs scared her , today i will take photos and see if Kanstul can give me a idea on cost . Our local shop is very good and no doubt can fix it , but something about Zig doing the repair appeal's to me more . My son is not to concerned about it yet , his hands are busy he is happy with his cornet's.

Re: Kanstul comes through

If you got that 5x for $100 you got a good deal from the sound of it. Just from a purely financial standpoint, a 5x in good shape will generally fetch $900-$1200 depending on the particulars, the market at the time, etc.

If it's a horn you just LOVE to play, then, any reasonable investment is still going to put you ahead for a horn that you LOVE to play.

I don't know anything about the Pilcauk. I've seen posts where people talk about them. I can also recommend Jim Becker at Osmun instruments in Arlington Mass. I know that's a long way for you. But Jim is really good. I just dropped my 1965 3x+ this morning for a full valve replating and piston rebore. I can't wait until he gets it done!
