Re: King Silversonic Cornet

Pretty nice Silversonic Gordon. How does it play since the overhaul? I have a soft spot for these cornets. Here's a picture of my 1937 Silvertone. It's easily the best playing instrument I've ever owned.

It has a very compact sound very like a UK brass band sound, moreso than the wedgwood I normally use for that purpose. The cost of buying it and getting it fixed up was still about a third of the price of buying a new corent and this one is much better.

Sounds fine.
I will need to do a recording of it.
The only problem is the first valve which is a spring related problem and you can't get the springs apparently, although I have heard that the bottom sprung yamaha flugel ones fit. I need to try some springs or just switch the first and third and see if that helps.

Great job on the restoration. Who did the work for you?

Same people who make eclipse trumpets.
The name of the company has totally escaped me but I am sure you will know who i mean.
Its on the tip of my tongue.
I can even remember their address but not the name.

Re: King Silversonic Cornet

Yes, thats the one.
I need to get a proper recorder set up. All I have currently is the webcam microphone.

I am just leaving the house to go and play Capriccio Italien (doubling first trumpet and first cornet).
