King Silversonic cornet on Shopgoodwill

Just saw a well use H.N. White King Silversonic on pg 10 of musical Inst. on Shopgoodwill.com. Pictures are not too good. I asked for detail on actions and serial. $13 bid with 7 days on auction. May be someone's diamond in the rough?

Re: King Silversonic cornet on Shopgoodwill

Hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks to me like a mid to late 60's model. There's no micro-tuner on the tuning slide, the mouthpiece receiver is smooth and somewhat funnel shaped and 3rd valve slide has a spot for a finger ring. I have a master cornet with similar features from the same era, but it has the micro tuner adjuster. I would guess that this is an East lake built cornet probably built around 1968 or so.

Edit: maybe the micro-tuner is there after all. It's really hard to tell from the crappy pictures. If it is, then the horn is probably made in Cleveland and could have been made between 1953-1965. Most of the early 50's horns that I've seen have a stepped receiver on them though, so I'm leaning towards it being a 60's horn.

Re: King Silversonic cornet on Shopgoodwill

Thanks, Don for your expertise. I should have said it was listed as a trumpet in the ad, not cornet, as is usual there. I don't see any micrometer, but you can't see the right side of the horn very well, even when it is in the case. Maybe they will answer me today. I have written that office many times for information. Some of the locations don't want to bother helping a buyer at all.

Re: King Silversonic cornet on Shopgoodwill

I just heard from Goodwill. It has serial 361xxx, so according to Kirmser would be between 55-60. I'll ask if it has a micrometer adjustment. They say everything works ok. I just noticed they asked if the back slide was attached with a screw on piece? May well be an HN White.

MF,
that is the chance you take when you bring our attention to an axe like this (I am not bidding though).

Thanks Rowuk, neither am I on this one. I would just like to see Goodwill get as much as they can for the cause and alert folks who wouldn't normally troll the Goodwill site like I do. My two cornets are enough for me, unless I can find a cheap Ambassador some day. I recommended a few days ago a couple of King's presently on auction for a pro-playing friend and member who wanted to get a good cornet for some gigs. I did purchase my Roth from Goodwill and am happy with it.In fact, a few weeks ago I donated a dud Beauport American trumpet (Czech) bought from the bay and they made $100 off it. I sort of feel sorry for whomever bought it.
