Lyon & Healy cornets

My Lyon & Healy silver cornet (#111xx) from 1908 is a very short
shepherd's crook Bb-A instrument with the model name "Duplex"
included in it's very elaborate engraving. Might anyone have a clue
as to possible actual manufacture of this horn?

L&H cornet

Is the valve for changing from Bb to A a sliding lever or is it a rotary valve. Some even had a different set of slides to affect this change. Which way does yours change over?

The A-Bb change is a slide pointing towards the bell which is activated by a
fulcrum(?) lever which extends downwards and is placed n front of the third valve.

Got to Horn-u-copia and scroll down to Lyons and Healy cornets to see if one like yours has been shown.

Interesting that you should suggest "Horn-u-copia" as MY cornet is shown, in all its glory, as "Reply #8". At that time I signed as "Howard Hornguy" Does anyone have a clue as to the possible manufacturer (possibly European?).

Re: Lyon & Healy cornets

Howard, It's American-made if my older horn is any indication. The engraving on my Lyon-Healy, #588x, goes as follows:

Lyon-Healy Duplex Cornet
Own Make Chicago USA Patent April 11, 1899

Hope this helps.
