market for strad Cornets?

hey guys...

first post. My wife is a former trumpet teacher, and when we first met I bought her a vintage strad cornet (1973 model) for a recital we were talking about doing together

It's been 12 years since then, and she's never really played it, so the case just sits in the closet collecting dust. She's playing keyboards at the church now, and I'd like to sell it to get a keyboard for her.

The problem is, I dont know how much to ask for it. It's a 73 in really nice condition, a little lacquer wear in spots, and a few minor dings in non-vital spots. The case is in great shape.

For good or bad, it seems the best way to get market value for these thigns it to look at what they sell for on ebay, but I haven't seen any of this vintage and condition.

I'm thinking of a $400 opening bid with a $800 BIN. Does that sound about fair? I'm not looking to make a killing here, but I dont want to undersell it either.

little help?

Re: market for strad Cornets?

To sell on eBay and get the best price, be extremely picky with your description and take some sharp pictures, including close ups of problem or unique areas. Pictures prove what you have! Also, start with a relatively low opening bid. That will attract attention and get people to follow the progress. You can always post a reserve that you won't sell under. Be honest, explicit and accurate... you will get your highest price.

I followed your advice, and put it on "the bay"

I dont think I'm being greedy, and I hope I represented its true contition.

I'm not going to post the link because I dont want to be accused of spamming, but if any of you see my auction and have any issues with the decription, please let me know.
