![]() | Martin Cornet serial 13466, union 456 My grandkids band leader gave him a Cornet the other day since his lips don't last for some of the 3 hour jazz concerts they give. Anyway, I didn't think much of it and now I'm concerned this cornet is too 'good' to be using daily basis. It's serial 13466 with 456 Union label stamped on the other side. Has fancy engraving on the horn. Ishowed it to a friend who works in repair shop and he said it was around 1917 vintage, in great shape with little wear, and thought it was too 'valuable' for the kid to be using as a daily instrument. I saw an earlier post (last year) with someone having a similar instrument but i couldn't view the pictures. What are you-guys opinions. i'll try and attach a picture. |

| Forte User | Re: Martin Cornet serial 13466, union 456 If you go to Horn-u-copia and scroll down to the Martin thread under manufacturers, then the cornet line, there are few cornets of the vintage of the one you received. That era of Martin horns are not particularily valuable , to my knowledge, as the later Imperial, Handraft, Committee, etc. I don't think it would be a good choice for a student with all the potential for damage in that environment. There are many used cornets around that would be better and can take punishment, Wouldn't hurt for him/her to try it out for awhile and see if it is suitable in the eyes of the director. Apparently your shop thinks it is in good shape. Is there a case?

![]() | Re: Martin Cornet serial 13466, union 456 We'll I tried to attach a picture. Shouldn't have been difficult - what did i do wrong. I have a jpg that is 90K 300 X 280 pixels (agrees with limits). I browsed for it, entered the 'upload' key and the screen blanked out and then said 'done' at the bottom. I kind of expected to see an attachment icon on my email but there was nothing. I tried a second time with a new thread and that didn't work either - not wanting to spam you-all I'll give up now. -thanks, Mike n |

![]() | Re: Martin Cornet serial 13466, union 456 Yes - the case is original and is good condition also. The repair guy said it appeared barely used - -i cleaned it up and everything works fine. the tone is great and my grandson loves it. Say's it's much much easier than any of the other trumpets or cornets he's played. i tried to post a picture, but i guess i'm not clever enough to attach a file. 90K jpg should have worked-- in the attachment screen after selecting the file and selecting upload - it says contacting trumpet... and then blanks out and says done. I was kind of hoping for an icon or something thanks, mike n |

| Forte User | Re: Martin Cornet serial 13466, union 456 I can't get the uploader to work, either. You can attach a link from an off site, like photobucket, flickr, etc. Sounds like your grandson is happy and has a good start with good equipment, so I think he should stay with that instrument. It will be certainly unique among his peers and render the old horn useful again. I know I won't be in as good shape at 90 as that Martin is. I bet it had an interesting history.
