Martin Magna

Hi everyone,
A cornet has come into my possesion and I need some help identifying and pricing it. It is a 'Martin Magna', serial number 705730. According to this website -> Martin Committee, Martin only made 48 of these. If anyone could shed some light onto the manufacture date, selling price, or where to sell it I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Re: Martin Magna

Um, no. The website you included a link to suggests that Martin only made 48 of the "Mic Gillette" model trumpets. There is no indication that the Magna cornet is a rare beast.

Re: Martin Magna

Hah, I thought that sounded a little too good to be true. But, I'm still curious as to manufacture date & selling price.

Re: Martin Magna

There is very little info on Horn-u-copia other than a photo of a Magna trumpet and text that it was introduced in 1955, as a level above the Committee. There is no mention of a Magna cornet there and I haven't seen one on ebay or anywhere else. The latest record of a serial is 700000 ocurring in 1964. Hopefully some of our Martin experts will weigh in.

Re: Martin Magna

I bought a Magna cornet off eBay 2 years ago that was "restored" by an infamous fella in Tallahassee FL. While it was an okay horn, the poor lacquer job with runs, etc., turned me off to the horn so bad I sold it 2 weeks later at a loss.

I replaced it with a Selmer Concept Cornet, and in turn replaced that with a new Lawler Cornet.

Either of 2 horns would play rings around that Magna. Mine was an early 60's model.
