Martin Superlative

Hello everyone.

I am offered a Martin Superlative trumpet (that's all it says on the bell, along with "Reg. US pat.office" and "Elkhart, Ind.") for about $370. My alternative to it is 1954 Olds Studio, twice that much.

What kind of trumpet is it?
Is it worth that much?
What are this model's weak (and good) sides?

Thank you :)

Specifications on instrument #

Welcome to the forum. I don't know much about the Superlative. The only one pictured in Horn-u-copia goes back to 1920 or so. There was also a Martin Superlative Dasant model, maybe the same thing?

Can you find out the serial number?

Re: Martin Superlative

Thanks.

I don't think it's a Superlative Dansant...Just Superlative
Hope someone will know more about it.

The serial is 29xxx, so I think it's around 1920 or something.

I need a good vintage trumpet as a replacement for my student model cornet. So, something good, but not expensive. I'd like a trumpet which sounds great.

When I started looking at the vintages offered, I felt like I was becoming a collector...

Re: Martin Superlative

If the this seller on eBay is right, just buying it and reselling it would make me money
Please chase me away from here before I start collecting trumpets...

Re: Martin Superlative

That would be hypocrisy on my part, as I have succumbed to the lure of vintage trumpets and cornet.

Too late! It's very obvious that you already have the 'N+1 Virus'. So, just give in like the rest of us have (two more arrived on my door step today - luckily my wife is away for a couple of days - whew!)

Just remember, reselling is not an option. They only go one way.
