Need some info from you smart folks

About 25 years ago I purchased a "York Custom Model" cornet from an antique store. It looks like it was redone (a run in the finish right around the words York Custom Model). The serial number is 131906. It is in excellent condition, but I could never find any info out about it (I must admit, I didn't try really really hard...).

Can anyone tell me anything about this instrument? Is it any quality?

Thanks.

Nick

Re: Need some info from you smart folks

Do you have pictures of this horn please? It could give us a better perspective on this matter.
Thank you

Re: Need some info from you smart folks

Welcome to TM! Good thing you characterized us as "smart folks" before any answers were given.

Anyway, the best list for York's estimates it would have been built in 1945.
Go to Horn-u-copia and scroll down in the Manufacturers' section to York link and you will find lots of discussion and photos of many York models.
OLDLOU is the moderator of that forum and the York expert here, so will probably contribute to this thread. http://www.horn-u-copia.net/cgi-bin/....pl?board=york Here is the York section. Hope it comes through ok.

Your York Custom Model is a fine horn. It is just one step,( cosmetics ), below the Master Model.

Re: Need some info from you smart folks

All,

Thank you! I followed the link go Horn-u-copia and sure enough item number 7176 (s/n 37037) is an exact duplicate of the one I posted about (s/n 131906). I tried to post pictures but can't seem to get them the right size.

As I stated in my post, there is a small run in the finish right below the word "Custom Model" on the bell. I assumed that this was an indication that the horn was refinished at some point. Is that correct? Just for info, what is a horn like this worth. I am not trying to sell, but I bought it for $25.00 and wondered the real value.

Thanks again all!

Nick

Re: Need some info from you smart folks

You got a deal there even 25 yrs ago.Enjoy the trumpet. You might look thru Ebay's completed listings and see if you can find something similar to it to compare with. Probably worth $100-$300?

Here is the ebay page with some York's on it. Don't recall ever seeing a Custom on ebay before.
