Smile Need your thoughts on a Getzen...

Hello,

I have recently started playing again after taking 30 yrs off and I am currently looking to upgrade and may have a chace to purchase a one-owner Getzen Doc Severinsen from the mid seventies that appears to be in great condition. Any thoughts on this model?

If you can get a mid 70s or earlier Severinsen Eterna in great shape, you should grab that little puupy right away.

A great pro horn. My dad had one with the serial number under 1000 and it was one of the best horns I ever played.

Go for it!

Re: Need your thoughts on a Getzen...

As always, try before you buy. Most likely it's a terrific player, but a few dogs were built, as well. My best friend in high school had one from that era that was not good--he'd often borrow my Ambassador which he preferred. On the other hand, our band director had one from the '60s and for me, it's the last word on how a trumpet should sound and play.

Go forth, then, and find a good one...

I have an early/mid seventies Severinsen I bought while in high school Still plays great. If the one you are looking at is the one with the two tuning slides for different bore it can help when you move from lead playing to ensemble or work on lower register intonation. So I hope you try the one for sale first and find it meets your needs.
