New York Bach 1937 model 26-59???

I just bought a 1937 New York Bach with a 6 leadpipe and the bell reads "Model 26-59" Does anyone have any idea what this means? I have never seen anything like this before, could it be a custom model? Thanks,
Dan

The bell marking really means "Stradivarius Model" and the bell number and bore were added there in the 30's. It means the trumpet has a number 26 bell and a ML .459 bore. Abbreviated 26-59.

I cannot find a 26 bell in any of the vintage Bach literature. Any ideas as to how it compares to a 37 or 43?

I don't have much experience with the 26 bell. My guess is that it was standard for a while until the 37 came along. Just a guess though. Here's an article explaining Bach markings that also has a picture of the 26-59 bell marking.

Take a look at the Bachology website and you will get alot of info:

Welcome to BachBrass.com

In fact, they have a picture of a bell with the markings of 26-59 which as stated above is a ML (.459) bore with 26 bell. Bach experimented in the early New York days with many different bells. Perhaps more than 70 or so. NY Bachs are all custom horns with varied bell, bore, leadpipe combos. That is part of their allure. The best thing is that Roy Hempley has access to Bach's shop cards where Bach kept a record of the specs of all of his horns. Mr. Hempley was able to send me scans of the cards of all of my Bach horns (3 NYs and 1 MV).

Hi Dan!

I just bought your trumpets slightly older sister!!

A Bach 26-59 with a 6 pipe from nov.-35!

After playing it for a while, and by looking at it, the 26 bell seems to be somewhat tighter, and flares out much later than for instance a 37 bell.

The sound (for me) is a bit brighter-but what a SOUND!!

Congrats on your buy!!

Re: New York Bach 1937 model 26-59???

A bit of update:

After having measured the bell taper, my tech noticed thad the 26 bell is actually BIGGER than both the 37 and 7 bells (the only bells made "back then" he had to compare with!)

Maybe it is somwhere in the neighbourhood of the 25 bell?

The "tight" feel may come from the fact that I'm actually not used to fill up a horn this big!!

Cheers!
