![]() | Re: Old Case Smell (or stench!) One bottom line that needs to be understood; something I stress to my boys. After playing, if you place in case, leave it open. I like to keep mine on my stand as long as possible. I don't care to place my warm horn in the case and zip shut. After playing and due to transport; open case immediately when arriving home. The warm moisture inside the horn is filling the case with a humid environment that almost any pesky spore would thrive. |

![]() | Re: Old Case Smell (or stench!) Excellent point. I like to also make sure that all the condensation is out of the horn before I close it up. That won't happen until the horn is cold again. Dottie |

![]() | Re: Old Case Smell (or stench!) Wow, thanks everyone, this has turned into a wealth of info for me! So far, I've found one thing I forgot I had under the sink doing the trick on cases without a lot of padding, a bottle of stuff called Odor Assassin (I don't know if they still make is as the can I have is over 10 years old) For the more padded case I'm still working on, I'll start into some of the methods here and let you know! Thanks! |

![]() | Re: Old Case Smell (or stench!) Use a piece of flannel to cover the horn so that the case, the mold, or any chemicals accumulated in the felt do not come in contact with the horn. That granny's shorts odor that cases get is probably bad for the brass as well as the player. That flannel can get washed now and then whereas the case liner can't be washed. |
