![]() | Olds Ambassador cornet I am having my Olds Ambassador cornet stripped to raw brass and refurbished at MusicAid(in London, Ontario) and the serial # is 28191. I think that is a fairly early serial number for the Ambassador line and I wonder if anybody out there has an earlier Ambassador cornet? Is there a mouthpiece made that will fit the horn, or should I have a new receiver fitted? uncledave |

![]() | Re: Olds Ambassador cornet This article at the "Olds Central" Web site should answer your question about the large-shank Olds cornet mouthpieces Olds Large Shank Cornet Mouthpieces The home page for that Olds Central site is Olds Central: Information on trumpets and cornets by F. E Olds and Son 1928-1979 And the serial number list for determining the year of your cornet is at F. E. Olds and Son Serial Numbers as shown in the link from the Olds Central home page. It appears that your cornet is from 1948, the first year they were made. I tried a 1948-1949 one a couple of years ago and the seller said that the first year of Ambassadors had greater air resistance than later years because Ambassadors were changed after the first year, but I don't know if that referred to the trumpets or to the cornets or to both. ![]() | Re: Olds Ambassador cornet I have a 1951 Ambassador cornet. I bought a body of a 1957 on ebay and put the receiver on my 1951. From 1955 to 1957, the receiver was a small taper with the round design.
