OLDS Recording -- L.A. vs Fullerton (??)

I have (since new) a late '50's Ambassador. Always wanted a Recording model. Always seems to be some available, but I don't know what to look for. Are there (if any) "quality issues" between the L.A. vs the Fullerton production ? What's with the "Super Recording" model ?

In brief -- what should I be looking for ? Anything to avoid ? What's a "fair" price (a range) ?

Thanx, in advance,
Robert Rowe

From what I've read, Olds horns had no quality issues until the '70s, and even then it was with the Ambassadors that they were cranking out like crazy, their pro horns were still excellent.

I haven't had access to a lot of Olds horns to compare, but I do have Studios from LA and Fullerton, the Fullerton horn plays slightly more open and brighter than the LA, but the LA is lacquered and the Fullerton is raw, that could be the difference right there. They are both really great.

I agree with what Dylan said. And as far as I know, there's really no difference between the LA and Fullerton horns other than collector value. I think I read once that after a point the engraving on the Fullertons got kinda cheap, but as far as quality of the Recording I don't think they were effected much. I've seen them go for around 650 all the way up to 1000, sometimes more depending on what kinda shape it's in.
