Please help ID and unknown vintage cornet Greetings to those learned in brass lore, I recently acquired a small cornet and I would like to know who made it. The only clues I have are as follows: It has some features I have come to associate with 1930's H.N. White King horns, such as the matte silver finish, the design of the valve caps and bottoms, and the valve block spacers. The problems is that the only lettering on it is the serial number on the second valve and "Made in Elkhart" on the bell flare. It has engraving on the bell that, to me, is reminiscent of the King logo but there is no manufacturer name. The bell is 4 3/8 inches across. This is the first time I've posted a photo so I hope it works... Thanks, Dave Taylor

Re: Please help ID and unknown vintage cornet I don't know guys, how old is the Holton company? I know this horn looks like it was made in the early 20th century. All I know about Holton is that they were around in 1966 because that's when I started out on a Holton Collegiate in elementary school. Regards, Dave Taylor Bach Strad 37LR25 Bach Strad MLV 65G Holton cornet???

Re: Please help ID and unknown vintage cornet Holton started producing instruments in Chicago in 1898, and moved to Elkhorn, WI in 1917. King was based in Detroit, Cleveland, and finally Eastlake, Ohio. Neither were ever based in Elkhart, IN. I would guess it's a stencil horn made by Conn.

Re: Please help ID and unknown vintage cornet Conn makes sense to me. So a stencil horn is a horn without a brand name on it? Dave Taylor
