Recommendations?

I'm a comeback player and wanting to pick up an old vintage trumpet. Any suggestions on knowing what ones to look for etc?

I currently have my Bach T200S intermediate horn from high school. I'm a comeback player who likes the appeal of a vintage/unique horn.

I'm also light on budget so any "sleeper" type models to watch for?

Looks arent as high a priority as I have naturally acidic skin and have worn my Bach down to bare brass in the common places from holding in.

Thanks.

One good choice is a Conn 6B Victor trumpet. Plays as well as, if not better than a Connstellation, but usually sells for a lower price. I bought this one (made in 1960) on eBay for $300, and it is like new. Plays great, about as well as my vintage Bach Strad, only different (maybe a little more versitile sound). It's pretty cool-looking, too.

I probably should not divulge this, but, my advice for a sleeper would be any of the York trumpets with an underslung third valve ring and a 'French Roll' bell edge treatment.Their close cousin, the Blessing Artist or Super artist is almost the same instrument, but, a bit more dear in price and in my estimation no better. I have two of the Yorks and like them even better than either of my Strads. Another to 'try' to find would be any King Liberty Model, with the Silvertone at the very top of the Liberty list.

Beautiful looking horn. I'll have to add that one to the list.

You can also find good deals on Selmers occasionally. I just picked up two that do need some TLC but got both for less than $700! I plan on spending a few hundred and then being able to either keep them for my collection or selling to a student who wants a nice horn.
