Recommendations for replacement cases/gig bags?

I have two recently acquired cornets (1935 Olds Super and 1940 King Silvertone) with crappy original/vintage cases, which I want to replace with good quality gig bags or hardshell cases. Any recommendations?

Depends on how much you are willing to spend.

Wiseman cases are very expensive $700 and more.

I have a Torpedo Bag for my Eclipse, very good secure case for under $200. I recommend that case highly.

Pro Tec cases will do the job very well at a good price. Usually under $100.

Re: Recommendations for replacement cases/gig bags?

Ditto for the Torpedo Bag. Marcus Bonna makes also excellent trumpet cases, but I am not sure if the trumpet single can be used for cornets. The doubles are usually adaptable. Good place to start the safari from is Cornet

Re: Recommendations for replacement cases/gig bags?

I keep mine in a ProTec PB301CT case. They offer terrific protection for the dollar, even better than some more expensive cases. Here is a link:

ProTec PB301CT - Contoured Trumpet Pro Pac Case

They normally sell for a little over $100.00 but as you can see you can get one for less. I use these for my Conn 40A and 40B and my H.N. WHite Liberty horns.

I have heard of an eBay seller sticking a lable directly on the case and shipping it. The horn arrived undamaged.

I had a car accident going about 45 mph with one of my Libertys in this type of case. It flew over the front seats and hit the windshield and dash with no harm to the trumpet or case.

Re: Recommendations for replacement cases/gig bags?

I bought one of these ProTec cases for my 19th century cornet. I travel with it a lot and last year it was damaged in the old wooden case it was in. This one seems to offer very good protection and has some handy storage space, too.

Re: Recommendations for replacement cases/gig bags?

You might try a Galaxy case - I have one for my Getzen900 Eterna and it is much like a Pro-Tec case with plenty of room for mutes, trumpet stand, music, tuner, cotton gloves, glasses (spectacles, not beer....), and at a reasonable price (I thought).

Try the following link for info on a variety if cases Galaxy, Pro-Tec etc (I have no affiliations - I'm just a satisfied customer).

What do you guys think of Guardian Cases? Good? Bad? They are a little cheap so I was just wondering if they are worth it.

Cheers

I have had a Guardian triple for a couple of years and it suits my needs. The denier shell is well made, handy side pockets, etc. The interior has a shaped trumpet covered foam insert where I put the trumpet. I usually also carry a cornet and put it on one side of the trumpet holder and put my stands, 3 mutes, stand mute holder on the other side. The case is pretty deep. There is padding on all services, but no firm walls or supports. I have put some cardboard an plastic sheets across the bottom for a bit more support. The side pockets can carry a music folder, mp pouch valve oil, and much other stuff.
I don't do any serious traveling with the horns, so this case provides the protection I need to carry everything to band practice, concert site, etc.,and not worry about them, using normal care.

Certainly worth the $56 they charge now on ebay and that was about what I paid for mine.

Re: Recommendations for replacement cases/gig bags?

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up ordering a Pro Tec PB301 for just over $70, shipping included. I may order a second for my other cornet, if the first works out. (I would have liked to have gone with Torpedo, but can't afford it right now.)

Good choice! Everyone's needs are different including the baggage they need to carry around at any given time.
